Josephine (Verba) Marcus, 96, on Mother's Day, May 12, 2013, our mother went to be with the Lord. She was a resident of Beacon Ridge for six months but formerly resided at Bracken Road, Vintondale. Born Jan. 25, 1917, in Scott Glen, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Spis) Verba. Preceded in death by husband, Carl, in 2001; parents; infant siblings; brothers, Charles, John and Adolf; as well as sisters, Ann, Pauline, Jennie Hurt and Lula Sammartano. Survived by brothers, Frank (Mary) and Leon (Denise); sisters, Kathryn Hugar and Elizabeth Faucett; children, Elizabeth Reed, Alvera (Walter) Spare, Philip (Theresa) and Mary (Scott) Foreman; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine and her husband owned and operated Marcus Tavern in Dilltown for 25 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an excellent cook, a talented seamstress and was an avid gardener. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Mel Nycum and Pastor Barry Brown. Interment, Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg.
