John Edward Novak

John Edward Novak, 91, died peacefully at home January 17, 2016. He was born December 26, 1924 in Heilwood , PA , son of Peter and Mary Novak.. John will be greatly missed by loving daughter, JoAnn, husband, Victor Lescznske and cherished grandson, Christian of Washington PA. He is survived by his brother Michael (MaryAnn) Novak of Seven Hills OH, brother-in-law, Mario (Eileen) Corti, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, wife Edith (Corti) on July 5, 2009, which ended nearly 60 years of marriage. They were married on June 30, 1949. Also deceased are bothers Frank and Joseph, of Erie, PA and sisters, Helen Chichy, OH, Stella Kopczyk, Clymer PA and Anne Kuzemchak, Heilwood PA; brothers-in-law, John Corti, NJ, Joseph Corti, Nanty Glo PA and sisters-in-law Sally Brown Nanty Glo, PA and Clara Morgan of OH. He was retired from the Gautier Division of Bethlehem Steel Corporation and was a World War II Navy Veteran, having been stationed in the Pacific on the USS Atherton DE 169. John was a wonderful family man that loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and had hunted as recently as this past deer season. He was a lifetime member of the Nanty Glo Fire Company and was the Grand Marshall of their recent Firemens Convention Parade in August 2015 and continued to help at their Friday Bingo and other fund raisers at the local fire hall. He belonged to the Cambria County Fire Association, National Rifle Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and St Marys Catholic Church. A special Thank You to Dr Tatarko, Kathy, and staff at the Ebandjieff CVMH Clinic for their compassionate care. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Leonard Voytek, the Celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Nanty Glo. Military Services will be conducted by the local Veteran Organizations Ritual Team. Memorial contributions can be made to St Marys Catholic Church or the Nanty Glo Fire Company.
