James "Marty" Long

September 4, 1935 — February 20, 2020

When you look out of your window tonight, you will see that the biggest fan of all things Star Fleet has joined the crew.  Uncle Marty Long passed away early this morning after a valiant fight with esophageal cancer.  He never complained about all of the trips to doctors’ appointments or the many tests he had to endure.  He was a real trooper!!

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Blain Long; his mother, Lillian (Tobin) Long; his sister, Agnes; his brothers Carl, Richard, Thomas and Dean Long.

We are sure that his dogs, Bingo, Shotgun Red 1, 2 and 3 met him at the Rainbow Bridge and were extremely happy to see him.

He was the proud Uncle to Morine Long, JoAnn Long (Jassim) Al Ameer, Sabrina (Shawn) Long Campaniello, Shawn (Cathy) Long, Kevin (Amy) Long and Danielle Long.  He was an even prouder Great Uncle to Mackenzie Long, Ainsley Long and Aiden Long.  We will all miss celebrating his birthday and Christmas with him.  He was the life of the party!!

Uncle Marty never uttered a bad word about anyone.  He loved life and spent most of his time watching his Star Wars and Star trek movies and listening to country music at a volume that all the neighbors could ‘enjoy’.  His hat collection included cabbie style, cowboy, ‘Elmer Fudd’ ear lugs, and seasonal hats for the 4th of July, St Patrick’s Day and Christmas.

Marty loved animals and always had a dog as a walking pal until he could no longer go for walks on his own.  But Uncle Marty always said the walks stopped ‘because his dog got old’.  Some of his fondest memories were as a young boy attending bible study at the Baptist Church.  Those who wish to honor his memory may make a donation in his name to the local Humane Society or the 1st Baptist Church in Nanty Glo.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Tunio and his great staff for making Uncle Marty so comfortable during his radiation; Dr. Sbeitan and his team for helping him through his chemo sessions; and the valet staff at Good Sam’s for showing such affection to Uncle Marty.  In addition, we wish to thank Kaylee and Becky from Home Health for their comforting home visits; and Dr. Wilson and the staff at the Ebandjieff Clinic for their special treatment of Uncle Marty.

Finally, the ICU at Conemaugh Memorial was so kind to us during Uncle Marty’s brief stay there. The doctors, and especially the nurses, were so sympathetic and caring; we cannot thank them enough.

At Uncle Marty’s request, there will be no viewing or service.

Uncle Marty has moved on to the final frontier. . .Star Fleet Out!!
