CW II Charles E. Mahan, U.S. Army (retired), 80, Nanty Glo, died Oct. 16, 2014, at home. Born Aug. 20, 1934, in Nanty Glo, son of the late Samuel E. and Mary E. (Dunwiddie) Mahan. Preceded in death by brother, Samuel; sisters, Mary Jane Miller and Sally Klash; and son-in-law, Stanley Montgomery. Surviving are his wife, Sandra J. (Collins) Mahan, Nanty Glo; children, Linda Montgomery, Laurel, Md.; Charles (Avalene) Laurel, Md.; Margie Mahan, Monroe, N.Y.; Lisa (Rick) Bradley, Virginia Beach, Va.; Kathy (Robert) Ruck, Glen Burnie, Md.; and Nancy Mahan, Laurel, Md.; stepchildren, Lori (David) Sunderland, Bellwood; and Richard C. (Amanda) Smith, Lucernemines; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; also uncle, Donald (Annabelle) Mahan, Indiana. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service and serving in the Korean War. He was the proud owner of Charlie's Auto Body in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Charles loved his tractor and baling hay. Member of the VFW, Post 3489, and American Legion, Post 619, both of Nanty Glo. The family would like to thank Conemaugh Hospice, especially Laura and Marian. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Gale Winning, officiating. Interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery.
