Catherine (Matachosky) Smolensky

Catherine (Matachosky) Smolensky, 95, passed away Sept. 16, 2015, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born March 1, 1920, daughter of the late John and Pearl Matachosky. Preceded in death by husband, John; sisters, Mary Warholic, Agnus Matachosky and Sophie Ditty; and brothers, Joseph, Walter, Mike and Joseph. She will be sadly missed by surviving children, Patricia (Walter) Hoffman, Elizabeth (Rick) Thompson, Linda (Mick) McGlothen; and Janet (Tom) Crookshank; and son, Robert; also eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Survived by sisters, Ann Polard and Helen Rodnoti, and brother, Andrew. Catherine enjoyed gardening, cooking traditional Polish dishes, spending time with her family and trips to The Meadows Casino. The family would like to express thanks to Catherine's doctor and neighbor, Dr. Mike Tatarko, for the kindhearted care he provided her over the years. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Bowser-Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at St. Mary's Church, Nanty Glo.
