Bernard Paul "Bernie" Schilling

Schilling-Bernard “Bernie” Paul, 83, Ebensburg, passed September 17, 2021 at home. Born November 6, 1937, in Johnstown. Son of the late Paul and Minnie (Cramer) Schilling. Preceded in death by parents, great grandson Jonah Meyers, grandson Chad Schilling, sister Leda and brother George. Survived by loving wife Cindy (Croyle) Schilling and these children: Jeffrey, Nanty Glo; Brenda (Gary) Hale, Windber; Bernard, Nanty Glo; David (Tonya) Ebensburg; Dina Schilling-Woodlin, Johnstown; Tracey (Jason) Heeney, Mineral Point; and Rae Ann (Jim) Kasecky. He leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Ida Mae (Ron) Pennington, Lancaster; Katherine (Glenn) Keilman, Ebensburg; and brother James, Hanover. Bernie joined the army in 1956 and served with the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions in Germany. He was a very proud veteran. He worked in various coal mines spanning over a total of 60 years. He was a proud union member and served as Mine Committee Man for 12 years while working at Revloc Mines. He retired from Beth Energy Mines in Ebensburg. Bernie was Captain of the Twin Rocks VFW Ritual Team since its inception. He belonged to the Moose Lodge 681, Ebensburg, Nanty Glo Polish Club, Nanty Glo American Legion, Twin Rocks VFW, and UMWA Local 1386. Bernie loved to shoot pool in his younger days and was an avid gardener. Visitation will be Monday at Bowser Ondriezek Funeral Home, Nanty Glo, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Funeral Service to follow at 8 PM. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Military Services will be conducted by the Nanty Glo, Twin Rocks, and Vintondale Ritual Team.
